forest road networks design in a multiple used forestry plan using gis, armardah forests of baneh

Authors
abstract

this research was aimed to investigate the condition of the existing roads and designing road network based on forest management plan at armardah, baneh. using analytical hierarchy process (ahp) method, the important layers of slope, aspect, forest type and distance to villages and resorts, were weighted and ranked. maps were produced to weighted layers generated in gis to find suitable regions for road tracing. tracing of roads through visualization of necessary layers in gis were done in three phases. results showed that this method could prepare a fast and low cost feasibility function to design road network according to proposals of multiple used forest management plans. concerning to these facilities and using various layers of information in designing road network, this method can substitute the classic methods.

Forest road design combining common design techniques and GIS (Case Study: 2nd series of Liresar Forest)

Nowadays, it is necessary to apply modern techniques for the design of road networks, especially roads passing through ecosystems such as forests, in order to reduce operating costs, prevent further degradation of the environment, increase road efficiency and achieve sustainable development goals. In this paper, a new way of designing the road is presented. New design method has the ability to ...

Optimal Forest Road Density Based on Skidding and Road Construction Costs in Iranian Caspian Forests

Information on the productivity, costs and applications of the logging system is a key component in the evaluation of management plans for the rehabilitation and utilization of Caspian forests. Skidding and road construction costs are expensive forest operations. Determining the optimum forest road network density is one of the most important factors in sustainable forest management. Logging me...

Planning road network in mountain forests using GIS and Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP)

Forest road construction is the most costly operation in forestry. Road designing and construction in unsuitable areas may increase construction and maintenance costs and also cause many environmental impacts. Therefore, it is required to pay more attention to forest road design. In this research, we tried to introduce an appropriate method for locating forest roads using GIS and AHP simultaneo...
